NEW MARSHAL IN TOWN (Ely, Nv)

Keith Anderson (Reba's Brother) Grand Marshal

Keith Anderson named the July 4 Parade Grand Marshal

By Bunny Hill
Great Basin Service Club

The Great Basin Service Club is proud to announce long time resident Keith Anderson as the 2010 4th of July Grand Marshal. Keith was born in Fort Riley Kansas and later moved to Ely with his parents and siblings at the age of 5. He attended the Murry Street School, the old Ely Grade School and graduated from White Pine High School in 1975. Keith left Ely for a few short years to attend Snow College and graduated in 1981 with an Associated in Applied Science Degree.

Returning after graduation to Ely in 1981 Keith not only worked in the family business, Anderson's Foodtown, but he also became active in the community. He is the father of 4 children, 3 sons and 1 daughter and the grandfather of one. While raising his children he became very actively involved in many of their interests.

Keith is a true advocate for the youth of this community. He has enjoyed 25 years coaching White Pine Little League along with 10 years serving on the Little League Board of Directors. For the past 19 years he has been a 4-H leader, many times leading more than one project area. During 15 of those years he has also been the chairman of the Fairgrounds Improvement Committee and Livestock Committee Chairman for 2 years. He has served as the Merchant Bureau Chairman and was a member for 10 years. He is a 20 year member of the White Pine Chamber of Commerce, serving 5 years on the executive board and 1 year as President of the Chamber.

For the past 24 consecutive years he has been a member of the National Pony Express Association/Schellbourne Re-Riders. He participates yearly during the re-ride. He helps bring the history and excitement of the Pony Express into the White Pine County Schools each year. This is the 150th Anniversary of the Pony Express and Keith was instrumental in insuring the elementary children received letters that had been carried by the Pony Express Riders.

Hunting, hiking, motorcycling, horseback riding and camping in the mountain have always been significant parts of his life. Keith feels blessed to have had the opportunities to develop the great relationships with our youth that he has.

Even with his own children out of these programs Keith has remained active with them. When asked "why?" his response was "I consider them all my kids. I love this county, its people, and the mountains. This is where I grew up. This is where I raised my family, gained friends. The memories I have of this place run deep. It's my home!"

The Great Basin Service Club is proud to have such a dedicated person as Keith Anderson be our 2010 4th of July Grand Marshal.

Summer Vacation

Yay, it is that time of year when I get to have some needed R & R. :)
Jessica is planning to go to Grandpa and Grandma's in Ely for a couple of weeks. I will miss her and have to call her about 20 times a day. I have been doing some house cleaning and playing on facebook. I know this summer will go by very fast. We are going to Ely for the 4th of July and watch Keith in the parade. He was asked to be Grand Marshall this year. We are very happy and excited for him.
